Nick represents civil and criminal clients in state and federal court. His clients include personal injury clients, employers, and individuals charged with crimes in state and federal court. A deputy public defender for LaPorte County and a federal public defender under the Criminal Justice Act for the Northern District of Indiana, Nick is a regular contributor to NLKJ’s Criminal Defense Blog.
Nick is experienced in appellate work, and has argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the Indiana Court of Appeals, and the Indiana Supreme Court.
Prior to joining NLKJ, Nick clerked for Federal District Court Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer, Northern District of Illinois and the United States Attorney’s Office in Hammond, Indiana. Additionally, Nick worked for private law firms in Chicago, Illinois and Merrillville, Indiana.
Admissions & Memberships
Nick is admitted to practice before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Courts of the Northern and Southern District of Indiana, and all Indiana state courts. He is the past president of the La Porte County Bar Association in 2012 and 2014.
Leadership & Recognition
Nick is active in the community, serving on the LaPorte Educational Development Foundation Executive Board, the LaPorte County YMCA Board of Directors, and the Bethany Lutheran Church Council. He is a former board member of the LaPorte County Red Cross. Additionally, Nick volunteers as a Judge in the LaPorte Teen Court program.
Nick is a 2008 graduate of Valparaiso University School of Law, magna cum laude. Nick received a full academic scholarship to attend Valparaiso University School of Law and participated in Valparaiso’s Honor’s Program.
Nick is a 2005 graduate of Belmont University (Nashville, Tennessee), graduating cum laude with a B.A. in Accounting. Nick was a four-year member of the Belmont University Division I Men’s Basketball Team. Nick served as the co-captain of the 2004-2005 Men’s Basketball Team.
